Their love story began in 2015 when Richard invited Lee Ann to the first University of Hawaii football game of the season. She almost didn’t go but her girlfriend, Kristen, insisted that she not miss the game. Kristen also went out of her way to pick up the tickets so that Lee Ann would go. Lee Ann was so happy that she went to the game and according to her it was the beginning of her favorite love story.
Richard and Lee Ann started dating and the following year, the UH Warrior football team was scheduled to open the 2016 season in Australia against the California Bears. Being avid fans of UH football and volleyball in particular, the two followed the football team to Australia. But before their trip to Australia, on Father’s Day, Richard asked Lee Ann’s dad for his blessing to marry her. They had a wonderful time in Australia and before the trip was over, Richard proposed to Lee Ann at Darling Harbour in Sydney.
Fast-forward a year and I’m excited to be here capturing memories for my friend, Lee Ann’s wedding. The day started at the iconic Sheraton Waikiki. Richard and the guys including Lee Ann’s son looked sharp in their suits. Lee Ann and her ladies looked amazing in their dresses and Lee Ann was just glowing from head-to-toe. Personalized gifts were given to the members of the bridal party. At first, Richard and Lee Ann had agreed not give each other gifts but they could not resist. Richard received a Movado watch and Lee Ann received a beautiful necklace which she had her eyes on for quite a while.
We took some time out for a 1st Look at the Sheraton before going to Liliuokalani Park for pictures with the bridal party. Richard could not hold back his emotions when he sees his wife-to-be for the first time. It was nice to see them both get emotional together.
Soon after taking pictures with the bridal party, we made our 4-mile trek to Café Julia for the ceremony. The ceremony setting at Cafe Julia was simple yet elegant, exactly what they had envisioned. A memorial area was set up where pictures of family members who passed away were displayed under a tree. The floral arrangements were nicely put together by Spinning WEB Florist and to perform the ceremony was Pastor Elwin Ahu.
Following the ceremony, family pictures began while the Cafe Julia courtyard was being transformed to a reception setting. When the family pictures were done we headed out just across the street to the grounds of I’olani Palace for more pictures with the newlyweds. We spent about 20 minutes there and when we returned, the transformation was done and the staff from Cafe Julia, Spinning Web Florist and AMCC did an amazing job with their creation!
To start the reception emcee, Billy V, introduced the bridal party, the Chinese Lion Dance Association entertained the guests with an amazing Chinese lion dance performance. The rest of the evening was followed by a nice dinner buffet, hilarious speeches from their cousins, a very heartfelt Banzai toast, cake cutting ceremony, Lee Ann presenting her mother with her bouquet followed by the garter toss, the father and daughter dance, and then the best was saved for last… the newlyweds first dance as husband and wife.
